Your advice about not using machines in the gym is primitive. Machines offer huge potential for isolating particular muscle groups. Free weights incorporate stabilizing muscles, but bad form can lead to serious injuries.

Incorporate both into your workout plan, using the free weights to grow and the machines to pinpoint.

    Peace.

While machines have some benefits, I strongly beleive the cons outweigh any pros. These cons being…

-Risk of pattern overload injuries..performing the exact same movement over and over, week in week out, just sets yourself up for the potential to damage muscle, tendons, and ligaments. Free weights don’t restrict you to the same path every single time. If you think only free weights can lead to serious injury, you are mistaken.
-False sense of strength…gym strength vs. real world strength. Machines are great for building gym strength..thats about it.
-Static body movement patterns…take the Smith machine for example…it does not take into account body shape and forces everyone into the same linear movement. This puts many individuals at a high risk of lower back injuries while doing squats. Not to mention hip and knee problems.

The idea that free weights are dangerous and machines are safe is a bit primitive if I may say so myself. Using free weights with PROPER form (as is always discussed and encouraged here) to grow AND pinpoint is far better than using machines, in my humble opinion.

I believe there is a place in the gym for all types of equipment. Adopting different levels of instability on different days, and at different times in your workout can be helpful. Also, helping people form the right neuromuscular connections while initially learning good form is more easily accomplished on a more stable piece of equipment. Don’t get me wrong, I am a proponent of free weights and unstable pieces of equipment, as long as they are applied appropriately. I think there is a time and a place for all the different types of equipment.

    Hi there,

I just found your website via google. I own two quality websites, runinfinity.com and delhirunners.com. Both of these are very popular running related websites and would complement the fitness theme of your website.

Do let me know if you would be interested in exchanging links with any of our websites. Just let me know and we will work this out.

We have just about started setting up our Partners page at http://runinfinity.com/partners

    Kind regards,

    Tanvir

At the Hungry Heart we deal with clients on the emotional level of why they over eat? We get to the root of their emotional eating to help them overcome the insatiable urge for food. We would love to network with some of you, and we are now going to be offering our services via Skype! I look forward to hearing your comments.
